Medallions And Diamond Diapering Decorative Flask

Decorative Flask

Pitkin Glass Works, Manchester, Connecticut

Deep Olive Green Pint

Provenance: Anonymous

Our featured GX-25 “Medallions and Diamond Diapering Decorative Flask” is the second of the “Three Kings” which is probably the rarest of the Jared Spencer flasks. We are currently displaying outstanding examples of all three of these flasks, the GX-24, GX-25, and GX-26 molds.

The “Three Kings”

For support, we are showing a second example that Norman C. Heckler auctioned off when the Warren C. Lane, Jr., Esquire Collection of Historical Flasks was auctioned in 2012. The “Three Kings” made an appearance here that most collectors will not forget.

The GX-25 Medallions and Diamond Diapering Decorative Flask is extremely rare. Our featured example is ex: Charles B. Gardner and Robert W. Skinner. It was lot 894 in the Blaske Collection that was auctioned in 1983.

On what is considered the primary face of the flask you will see an embossed medallion that has a heavy ring between two narrow rings with no inscription. The center of the medallion is depressed with a heavy ring containing four depressed petals. Below the medallion is a simple pendant with a three-point ornament to either side. There is ribbing that surrounds the pendant and ornament converging to the outer edge of the medallion on both sides. Below the converging ribbing is a heavy diamond field at the bottom of the flask. The reverse of the flask is the same as the obverse.

The flask edges have corrugated horizontal ribbing with the two ribs at the base of the neck forming horizontal rings around the flask. The two bottom ribs are carried horizontally around the flask. The pint flask has a plain lip and pontil mark.

Known colors are deep olive green and medium olive-yellow, both considered extremely rare.
